Marianne Theunissen On Stillness and Barbarism of Things. Marianne Theunissen is a visual artist with a strong interest in how things can evoke inter-corporeal and empathic responses in human beings. The way in which she likes the audience to experience these mechanisms is her driving force. This experiential nature relates to the performative quality of the work, in which she videos herself moving around or interacting with her own sculptures and things. She is currently doing a master in Performance Studies at the University of Utrecht to deepen her understanding of the relation between humans and things; on how we experience things nowadays as being turned on by the digital and the technological, but perhaps human desire and stupidity may play even a bigger role. She works often together with Chris Baaten on sculptures and performances and she is teaching at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy at the Fine Arts Department.
